We are committed to keeping Black Mountain Preserve a pristine wildlife and forest area. We ask that while you exploring and enjoying this area you preserve and help protect the plants and animals that reside here.

VEHICLES

In order to protect wildlife, we do not allow the use of motorcycles and ATVs on the property. The use of private vehicles on the roads is limited.

MINIMIZING USE OF CHEMICALS ON THE PROPERTY

Step by step, we are working to reduce or completely end use of toxic products on the property. One of the first areas we are addressing is the use of janitorial products that are harmless for both people and the local wildlife, in particular also water systems. Traditional natural formulations can work well for ordinary domestic use. But as a retreat center needing to meet health and safety requirements as well as keep our guests comfortable, we had to work a little harder to find products that are environmentally-friendly (eg Green Seal-certified), meet code AND are within our budget. We are pleased that we have nearly finalized this transition from mainstream, often highly toxic products to solutions that are gentle on us and the surrounding eco-systems.

FIRE PREVENTION

As Black Mountain Preserve is in an area of extreme fire risk, certain precautions are observed year-round. We do not allow campfires other than use of the fire-pit in the center of the property. No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property. Please do not use incense or candles in any of the rooms.
